Bisoprolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the basic idea with Danshen and bisoprolol (Zebeta). Bisoprolol already lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate. Danshen, in animal studies, seems to relax blood vessels and nudge blood pressure down on its own. So the worry is that the two together could push your numbers a little too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, tired, or notice your heartbeat feeling slow, especially when standing up quickly. To be fair, this concern comes from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Bisoprolol isn't a prodrug, so this is about added effect, not changed activation. Before adding Danshen, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
