Theoretically, DHEA might increase the risk of psychiatric adverse events when used with antidepressants.
In a human case report, the use of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with DHEA caused a manic episode. Concern for this interaction may be greater in younger individuals with higher baseline DHEA levels.

Auvelity combines bupropion and dextromethorphan, and it's used to treat depression. The concern here isn't really about how your body breaks the medicine down. Instead, because DHEA is a hormone your body can turn into testosterone and estrogen, it may nudge your mood and brain chemistry in ways that could stack on top of an antidepressant.

The worry is that combining the two might raise the chance of mood-related side effects, like feeling unusually wired, agitated, or having racing thoughts or trouble sleeping (which can edge toward a manic episode). I'll be honest though: this is mostly theoretical, drawn from lab work and a single case report with a different antidepressant. It's not a strong signal. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding DHEA, and watch for any unusual mood changes.

Buproprion, Dextromethorphan also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, DHEA might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some preliminary evidence shows that DHEA may inhibit CYP3A4; however, the clinical significance of this potential interaction is not known.

Auvelity is a combo of bupropion and dextromethorphan, and the bupropion piece actually works by purposely slowing down how your body clears dextromethorphan, which keeps its levels up so it can do its job in the brain. Dextromethorphan is also partly handled by an enzyme called CYP3A4. There's some early, lab-level hint that DHEA might mildly block CYP3A4, which could in theory nudge dextromethorphan levels a little higher.

If that happened, you might notice more dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or feeling spacey. But honestly, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence, and we don't know if it matters in real life. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Just mention to your pharmacist or doctor that you're considering DHEA so they can keep an eye out.
