Mipomersen Sodium falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Epistane interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Epistane is an anabolic androgenic steroid, and more specifically a 17-alpha-alkylated androgen. Therefore, there is concern that epistane has hepatotoxic effects. Also, epistane is structurally similar to epitiostanol, which has been associated with hepatotixicity in a case series of four patients.

Here's the simple version: both of these are hard on your liver, and stacking them could be a double hit. Mipomersen (Kynamro) is well known for raising liver enzymes and causing fat to build up in the liver, which is why people on it get regular blood tests to watch their liver. Epistane is an oral anabolic steroid that is also liver-toxic on its own. Put them together and the worry is that the liver strain adds up.

To be fair, this concern is theoretical, based on how each one behaves rather than reports of the two being used together. It doesn't change how Mipomersen works in your body. Still, I'd steer clear of Epistane (it's actually illegal to sell here), and please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing anything with Kynamro.

About Mipomersen Injection

What Is Mipomersen Injection Used For?

Brand name: Kynamro

  • Mipomersen injection is used to decrease levels of cholesterol and other fatty substances in the blood in people who have homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH; a rare inherited condition that causes very high levels of cholesterol in the blood, increasing the risk of serious heart disease). Some people with HoFH may be treated with LDL apheresis (a procedure that removes LDL from the blood), but mipomersen injection should not be used along with this treatment. Mipomersen injection should not be used to decrease cholesterol levels in people who do not have HoFH. Mipomersen injection is in a class of medications called antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) inhibitors. It works by preventing certain fatty substances from forming in the body.
