Acitretin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inhibitors might increase the levels and clinical effects of evodia.
Animal research shows that concomitant administration of ketoconazole, a known CYP3A4 inhibitor, with the alkaloid constituents of evodia significantly increases the area under the curve (AUC), maximum concentration (Cmax), and half-life of these constituents.

Here's the thing to know about this pairing: the interaction on file runs in one direction. Acitretin is acting like a mild CYP3A4 blocker here, and that could slow how your body clears the active compounds in evodia. In plain terms, the evodia may build up and have stronger effects, not the other way around. So this isn't really about your psoriasis treatment changing, it's about the supplement hanging around longer.

Honestly, this is based only on test tube and animal work, so it's theoretical and nothing to lose sleep over. Still, since evodia has very little human safety data and acitretin is a serious medication you take long term, I'd run any plans to use evodia past your pharmacist or dermatologist first.

What Is Acitretin Used For?

Brand name: Soriatane

Acitretin capsules are approved to treat severe psoriasis in adults. It is typically reserved for patients whose psoriasis has not responded to other treatments, or when other treatments are not appropriate options.

Because of serious risks — including the risk of severe birth defects — acitretin is not a first-line choice. In women who could become pregnant, it should only be used when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks and strict pregnancy-prevention measures are in place.
