Goji + Lovastatin
Lovastatin brand names: Mevacor, Altocor.
Goji has a moderate interaction with Lovastatin. Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP3A4 and reduce metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Lovastatin
Lovastatin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.
In vitro research shows that goji berry juice inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with goji and lovastatin. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear lovastatin out of your system. Lab and test-tube studies suggest goji (especially concentrated juice or supplement doses) might slow that enzyme down. If that happened in your body, lovastatin could build up higher than expected, which raises the chance of statin side effects like muscle aches, muscle weakness, or rarely a more serious muscle problem.
The honest part: this comes only from lab research and hasn't actually been seen in people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. A few goji berries as food are very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about a concentrated goji supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lovastatin page
“Lovastatin (Mevacor) lowers cholesterol, and the liver clears it through an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is where most of these 184 supplements collide with it. This list deserves careful attention.”

About Goji
What is Goji?
- General antioxidant support
- Eye health
- Immune support
- Anti-aging and well-being
- Blood sugar support
Goji berries are a nutritious fruit rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and plant polysaccharides, and they are safe for most people as a food. While they are popular for eye health, immune support, and general wellness, strong human evidence for most health claims is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated goji supplements, especially if you take medications or are pregnant.
About Lovastatin
What Is Lovastatin Used For?
Brand names: Mevacor, Altocor
Lovastatin is used to lower high LDL ("bad") cholesterol and total cholesterol in people whose levels have not improved enough with diet alone. It is also used to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries (coronary atherosclerosis) in people who already have coronary heart disease.
In adults without existing heart disease but with high cholesterol and low HDL ("good") cholesterol, lovastatin tablets are approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, unstable angina, and the need for procedures to open blocked arteries. Lovastatin tablets are also approved for adolescents aged 10–17 with a specific inherited condition called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH), when diet changes alone haven't been enough.

Lovastatin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Lovastatin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Goji — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
