Drug & supplement interaction

Green Coffee + Dutasteride

Dutasteride brand name: Avodart.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Green Coffee and Dutasteride in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Green Coffee and Dutasteride

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Dutasteride and Green Coffee in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Green Coffee safety at a glance

Green Coffee overall Use caution Generally well tolerated in food amounts, but supplements contain caffeine and may cause stimulant-related effects.
Pregnancy Use caution Limit caffeine during pregnancy; concentrated supplement amounts are not well studied, so it is best to avoid them.
Breastfeeding Use caution Caffeine passes into breast milk; avoid concentrated supplements and limit intake.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Dutasteride

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Dutasteride is filed under 2 classifications — cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates, oral drugs. Green Coffee has documented interactions with 31 drug classes — the most serious being ephedrine (major), adenosine (adenocard) (moderate) and alendronate (fosamax) (moderate) — and none of Dutasteride’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Green Coffee and Dutasteride May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Reported for Green Coffee but not commonly for Dutasteride: trouble concentrating, dependence or withdrawal symptoms, raised blood pressure and mood changes or irritability.

Effects for Dutasteride come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Green Coffee come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 9,120 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Dutasteride that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

Coffea arabica · Rubiaceae · Raw (unroasted) coffee beans (seeds) · Capsules, tablets, powders, extracts, and brewed beverages

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Green Coffee is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Green Coffee record says about it on its own.

Green Coffee: dosing

There is no official, standardized dose for green coffee. Products vary widely in how much chlorogenic acid and caffeine they contain, which makes comparing them difficult. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount. Because green coffee contains caffeine, count it toward your total daily caffeine intake from all sources.

About Dutasteride

What Is Dutasteride Used For?

Brand name: Avodart

Dutasteride capsules are used to treat symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate — in men. Treatment can help improve urinary symptoms, lower the risk of sudden urinary retention (being completely unable to urinate), and reduce the likelihood of needing BPH-related surgery.

Dutasteride capsules can also be used in combination with tamsulosin (an alpha-blocker) to treat symptomatic BPH in men with an enlarged prostate. Importantly, dutasteride is not approved for the prevention of prostate cancer.
