Green Coffee + Phenelzine Sulfate
Phenelzine Sulfate brand name: Nardil.
Green Coffee has a moderate interaction with Phenelzine Sulfate. Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the risk of a hypertensive crisis.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs)
Why this applies to Phenelzine Sulfate
Phenelzine Sulfate falls under MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs) — the group Green Coffee interacts with.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Caffeine has been shown to inhibit monoamine oxidase (MAO) A and B in laboratory studies. Concomitant intake of large amounts of caffeine with MAOIs might precipitate a hypertensive crisis.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind: phenelzine (Nardil) is a strong MAO inhibitor, and it's well known for reacting badly with stimulants and with certain foods. Green coffee naturally contains caffeine, and caffeine is itself a mild stimulant. The worry on file is mostly theoretical, based on lab work suggesting caffeine can nudge MAO activity, but stimulants stacked on top of an MAOI can in some cases push blood pressure up sharply.
A small cup of brewed coffee is usually fine for most folks on this medicine. My caution is more about concentrated green coffee supplements, which can deliver a bigger caffeine punch. Watch for warning signs like a pounding headache, racing heart, or a flushed, sweaty feeling. Before adding any green coffee product, please run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Green Coffee
What is Green Coffee?
- Weight loss
- High blood pressure
- Blood sugar control
- Antioxidant support
- General energy
Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
About Phenelzine
What Is Phenelzine Used For?
Brand name: Nardil
Phenelzine is used to treat depression — specifically the types described as atypical, nonendogenous, or neurotic depression. This often includes people who have a mix of anxiety and depression, or who have phobic or hypochondriacal features (strong fears about illness or physical symptoms).
It is generally not the first antidepressant a doctor will try. It is best suited for patients who have already tried other antidepressants without enough relief. There is less evidence supporting its use in severe depression with classic biological features (called endogenous depression).

Phenelzine Sulfate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Phenelzine Sulfate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Green Coffee — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
