Moringa and Loncastuximab Tesirine-Lpyl

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES

Why this applies to Loncastuximab Tesirine-Lpyl

Loncastuximab Tesirine-Lpyl falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.

Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the honest picture with moringa and Zynlonta (loncastuximab tesirine). In a lab dish, concentrated moringa leaf extract slowed down a transporter called P-glycoprotein, which is one of the pumps your body uses to move certain drugs around. In theory, blocking that pump could let levels of a P-glycoprotein drug climb a little higher than expected. The catch is that this has only been seen in test tubes, never reported in real people.

If levels of this lymphoma medicine did edge up, you might in theory see more of its usual side effects, like low blood counts, swelling, fatigue, or skin and liver changes. I want to stress this is mostly theoretical. Because this is a serious cancer drug, please don't add a moringa supplement without first running it by your oncology team or pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Loncastuximab Tesirine-Lpyl page

“Loncastuximab tesirine (Zynlonta) is an infusion treatment for lymphoma that has come back or stopped responding, so I treat anything that can shift its levels as a real safety question. All 37 ingredients on file interact through the same doorway, a transporter called P-glycoprotein that moves drugs across cell membranes.”

About Moringa

What is Moringa?

  • Nutritional supplement
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cholesterol support
  • Inflammation
  • Skin conditions

Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
