Moringa + Tasimelteon
Tasimelteon brand names: Hetlioz, Hetlioz Lq.
Tasimelteon falls into 2 drug categories that Moringa can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, moringa might increase or decrease levels of CYP3A4 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Moringa interacts with whole categories of medication. Tasimelteon falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Moringa in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Tasimelteon
Tasimelteon falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.
Some in vitro research suggests that moringa inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). However, other in vitro research suggests that moringa extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in the pharmacokinetics of nevirapine, which is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear tasimelteon (Hetlioz). Moringa might nudge that enzyme in either direction. Lab studies are mixed: some hint that moringa blocks CYP3A4 (which could let tasimelteon build up, possibly leaving you groggier or sleepier the next morning), while others suggest it speeds the enzyme up (which could make tasimelteon wear off faster and work less well for your sleep-wake schedule).
Here's the reassuring part: this is only test-tube and animal data, so it's theoretical. In a human study with a similar CYP3A4 drug, moringa didn't change its levels. Everyday food amounts in cooking are very unlikely to matter. Still, if you're using concentrated moringa supplements, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Tasimelteon also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that moringa extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Hetlioz (tasimelteon): your body uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break this medicine down. Lab studies (just test-tube research, not people) suggest moringa might rev that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could clear tasimelteon a little faster, which could make it work less well. For a sleep medicine, that might look like trouble falling asleep or a less reliable sleep schedule.
I want to keep this in perspective. This is a minor, theoretical concern based only on lab data, so it may not matter much in everyday use. Still, since tasimelteon's whole job is helping your sleep clock, it's worth mentioning moringa to your pharmacist or doctor before you pair them, and let them know if your sleep gets worse.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Moringa
What is Moringa?
- Nutritional supplement
- Blood sugar support
- Cholesterol support
- Inflammation
- Skin conditions
Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
