STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Butalbital, Caffeine
Acetaminophen, Butalbital, Caffeine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Oolong Tea interacts with.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. Due to the CNS stimulant effects of the caffeine constituent of oolong tea, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: your headache medicine already has caffeine built right into it. Oolong tea brings its own caffeine to the table too. So drinking a lot of oolong while taking this combo basically stacks caffeine on top of caffeine. That can leave you feeling jittery, wired, or anxious, with a racing or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, and sometimes an upset stomach.
This isn't a dangerous chemical clash, just an additive effect, and it's based mostly on expert reasoning rather than hard studies. A cup or two of tea is usually no big deal for most people, but several cups a day could push you over the edge, especially if caffeine bothers you. If you notice the jitters, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Acetaminophen, Butalbital, Caffeine page
“Alcohol is the interaction I would flag first for anyone taking acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine (Esgic, Fiogesic, and others). Drinking raises the risk of liver injury from the acetaminophen component, and 38 of the 252 supplement ingredients on file carry that same liver concern.”

About Oolong Tea
What is Oolong Tea?
- Weight management
- Mental alertness and energy
- Heart health
- Blood sugar support
- Antioxidant support
Oolong tea is a traditional partially oxidized tea made from the same plant as green and black tea, and it provides caffeine and plant antioxidants. As a beverage it is generally considered safe for most healthy adults in moderate amounts, but evidence for specific health benefits like weight loss or blood sugar control is limited. If you have heart, blood pressure, or caffeine-sensitivity concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor.
About Acetaminophen, Butalbital, and Caffeine
What Is Acetaminophen, Butalbital, and Caffeine Used For?
Brand names: Tecnal, Esgic Plus, Fiogesic, Triad, Repan, Esgic, Fioricet
This three-ingredient combination — butalbital, acetaminophen, and caffeine — is used to relieve the symptoms of tension headache (also called muscle contraction headache). All supported products, including tablets, capsules, and oral solution, share this same approved use.
It is worth knowing that evidence for using this combination to treat repeated, frequent tension headaches over time is limited. Because butalbital can be habit-forming, extended or repeated use is not recommended.
