Here's a twist worth understanding: in this pairing, your birth control pill (Lybrel) is the one acting on the tea, not the other way around. The estrogen in Lybrel can gently slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is the same enzyme that breaks down the caffeine in oolong tea. So the caffeine may stick around in your body a bit longer than usual.

In plain terms, your usual cup of oolong might hit a little harder. Think jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired. This is theoretical, based on how these things work in the lab, not strong real-world proof, and a normal cup or two is unlikely to cause trouble. If you notice caffeine bothering you more, just ease back and chat with your pharmacist.

The estrogen in your pill (ethinyl estradiol) can slow down how your body clears caffeine, and oolong tea is a caffeine source. So the caffeine from your tea can hang around longer and hit a little harder than usual.

In real life, that might mean feeling jittery, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or some stomach upset, especially if you drink several cups a day.
