Risperidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help break down risperidone. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down. So when you take them together, risperidone may clear out a bit more slowly and build up in your system, which can mean stronger effects and more side effects. With risperidone, that might look like extra drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure when you stand up, or stiff, restless muscle movements.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is mostly theoretical, based on lab work and some early human data, so it may not be a big deal for everyone. Please don't stop or change either one on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding this supplement so they can keep an eye on you.

Here's the gist for risperidone. Your body partly clears this medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Berberine, the active compound in tree turmeric, appears to slow that enzyme down. When risperidone is cleared more slowly, more of it can build up in your bloodstream, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects.

With risperidone, that could look like extra drowsiness, dizziness or lightheadedness when standing, restlessness, or stiff or shaky muscles. The interaction is rated probable but still partly theoretical, so it doesn't mean trouble for everyone. Concentrated berberine supplements are more likely to matter than tiny culinary amounts. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your risperidone on your own.

What Is Risperidone Used For?

Brand names: Risperdal, Perseris

Risperidone is prescribed for three main conditions: schizophrenia (a disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels, and perceives reality), acute manic or mixed episodes in Bipolar I Disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder — including aggression, self-injury, temper tantrums, and rapid mood swings.

For bipolar mania, it can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate. It is approved for use in both adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents, depending on the condition being treated.
