Dihydroergotamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for migraine medicine like Dihydroergotamine (Migranal, DHE-45). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this drug from your body. In lab dish studies, uva ursi appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, your body might break down dihydroergotamine more slowly, letting it build up.

Why that matters: this is an ergot drug that tightens blood vessels, so too much can cause cold or tingling hands and feet, leg cramps, nausea, or in rare cases more serious circulation problems. The important thing to know is this enzyme effect has only been seen in a test tube, not in actual patients, so it's theoretical at this point. Still, since ergots are touchy drugs, please run this combination by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. What Is Dihydroergotamine Injection Used For?

Brand names: Migranal, DHE-45

Dihydroergotamine injection is used to stop a migraine headache once it has started — with or without the visual or sensory warning signs known as aura. It is also used to treat cluster headaches in adults.

It is not used to prevent migraines from happening, and it is not for hemiplegic migraine (migraine that causes temporary paralysis) or migraine with brainstem aura. Brekiya is specifically approved for subcutaneous (under-the-skin) self-injection using an autoinjector device.
