Ixazomib Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear ixazomib (Ninlaro). In lab dish studies, uva ursi seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, ixazomib could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which in theory might mean stronger side effects like nausea, diarrhea, low platelets, fatigue, or tingling and numbness in the hands and feet.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only a test-tube finding and has never been shown in people, so it may not matter at all. Since ixazomib is a serious cancer medicine, please don't start or stop uva ursi on your own. Just run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Ixazomib Used For?

Brand name: Ninlaro

Ninlaro (ixazomib) is used to treat multiple myeloma — a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow. It is always used together with two other medicines, lenalidomide and dexamethasone, and is approved for adults who have already tried at least one other treatment.

Ninlaro is not recommended as maintenance therapy or for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone outside of controlled clinical trials.
