Rabeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

Here's the gist for rabeprazole (Pariet): your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear it out. In animal studies, large amounts of atractylodes slowed down a similar enzyme. If that happened in people, rabeprazole could hang around a bit longer and its effect might feel slightly stronger. With this acid-reducer that usually means more of its mild side effects, like headache, nausea, gas, or loose stools.

The honest part: this is theoretical, only seen in lab and animal work at high doses, and never confirmed in humans. Rabeprazole is also generally very forgiving, so any real change is likely small. It's not a prodrug, so it isn't switched off here. Still, mention the supplement to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Rabeprazole

What Is Rabeprazole Used For?

Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.

In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.
