Why this applies to Boceprevir

Boceprevir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), indinavir (Crixivan), sildenafil (Viagra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for Boceprevir (Victrelis). Your body relies heavily on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medication down. In lab dishes, the plumbagin in Ceylon Leadwort has been shown to slow that same enzyme. On paper, that could let boceprevir build up higher than expected, which might mean more of its usual side effects like fatigue, nausea, a metallic taste, or worsening of the low red blood cell counts (anemia) you can already get with the full hepatitis C regimen.

Now, the honest part: this is only test-tube evidence, and it has never actually been reported in people. So I wouldn't panic. Still, since you're treating a serious liver infection, I'd run any supplement past your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
