ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Danaparoid
Danaparoid falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Danaparoid (Orgaran) is a blood thinner given by injection, usually to prevent or treat clots, often in people who cannot take heparin. Here is the concern: in animal studies, Ceylon Leadwort root extract made platelets less sticky and lengthened bleeding time. If that same effect carries over to people, pairing it with danaparoid could stack two blood-thinning actions on top of each other.
What that might look like: easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bleeding that takes longer to stop. To be clear, this has only been seen in the lab and in animals, not proven in humans, so it is more of a caution than a sure thing. Still, since danaparoid already affects clotting, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Danaparoid page
“Danshen, a Chinese herb sold for heart and circulation, is where I would start with danaparoid (Orgaran), an injectable blood thinner used to prevent and treat dangerous clots. Nearly everything here, 202 of the 218 ingredients on file, carries some blood-thinning or antiplatelet activity of its own, and stacking that on top of an anti…”

- Digestive complaints and poor appetite
- Skin conditions and wounds (applied to the skin)
- Joint pain and swelling
- Traditional 'metabolism-boosting' tonics

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.
