These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Ethinyl Estradiol, Ethynodiol Diacetate falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 3Why this applies to Ethinyl Estradiol, Ethynodiol Diacetate
Ethinyl Estradiol, Ethynodiol Diacetate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your birth control pill. Ceylon Leadwort contains plumbagin, which in lab dishes can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Estrogens like the ethinyl estradiol in your pill are partly handled by this enzyme, so in theory the supplement could let a bit more estrogen build up in your system. That might mean more of the usual estrogen-related effects, things like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, bloating, or mood changes.
The important caveat: this is only based on test-tube research, not real people, so we genuinely don't know if it matters in everyday life. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but before adding Ceylon Leadwort, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor, especially since this plant isn't well studied for safety.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Ethinyl Estradiol, Ethynodiol Diacetate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your birth control pill (the combo of ethinyl estradiol and ethynodiol diacetate) is processed in your body partly by an enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, a compound in Ceylon Leadwort called plumbagin appears to slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let estrogen levels build up a bit higher than usual, which might mean more of the typical estrogen side effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or bloating.
Here's the honest part: this has only been seen in test-tube studies, never in actual people, so it's a possible concern, not a proven one. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but I also wouldn't start a concentrated Ceylon Leadwort supplement without first checking with your pharmacist or doctor.

ESTROGENS
3 of 3Ethinyl Estradiol, Ethynodiol Diacetate also falls under ESTROGENS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your pill here combines two hormones, an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (ethynodiol diacetate), to prevent pregnancy. Here's the concern: in lab and animal studies, Ceylon Leadwort root has shown anti-estrogen activity, meaning it may work against the estrogen part of your birth control. In theory, that could blunt how well the hormones do their job.
I want to be honest with you, though. This is only a theoretical worry based on test-tube and animal research, not real-world human cases, so we can't say it actually weakens contraception. Still, since an unexpected pregnancy is a big deal, I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing this supplement with your pill.
