Golimumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has demonstrated immunosuppressant activity in animal research. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Here's the gist with Golimumab (Simponi/Simponi Aria) and Ceylon Leadwort. Golimumab is a biologic that purposely dials down part of your immune system (it blocks a protein called TNF) to calm conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. In lab and animal studies, plumbagin (the main active compound in Ceylon Leadwort) has shown effects on immune signaling too. So in theory, taking both could nudge your immune activity in unpredictable ways, possibly affecting how well your treatment controls your symptoms.

I want to be honest: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube and animal research, not real patients. There's no strong reason to panic. Still, since Golimumab already affects your immune system, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement rather than starting it on your own.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. What Is Golimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Simponi Aria

Golimumab injection is used to treat several inflammatory conditions. Simponi (subcutaneous) is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (in combination with methotrexate), active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 15 kg.

Simponi Aria (intravenous) is used for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis. Both products target the same inflammation pathway but are given by different routes and are each approved for specific conditions — they are not interchangeable across all uses.
