These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Guaifenesin, Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Guaifenesin, Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine
Guaifenesin, Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combo product has three ingredients, but the one that matters here is hydrocodone, the opioid cough/pain piece. Hydrocodone is partly turned into a more active form by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab dish studies (not in real people yet), plumbagin from Ceylon Leadwort appears to slow that enzyme down.
Because hydrocodone leans on CYP2D6 for some of its activation, blocking that enzyme could actually shift things either way, but more often the parent drug lingers, which may mean a bit more drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing. Honestly, this is theoretical and based only on lab work, so I wouldn't panic. Still, before adding this supplement, run it past your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on you.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Guaifenesin, Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product has three ingredients, but the one that matters most here is hydrocodone, the opioid cough suppressant. Your body partly relies on the CYP3A4 enzyme to break hydrocodone down. In lab studies (test tube only, not in real people), plumbagin from Ceylon Leadwort appears to slow that enzyme. In theory, that could let more hydrocodone build up, which might mean stronger effects like extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing.
The honest truth is that this is very early, theoretical evidence, and it hasn't been seen in actual patients. The guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine pieces aren't really affected. Still, since hydrocodone is an opioid, I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
