Insulin Glargine (rDNA) falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Ceylon leadwort root extract has been shown to both increase and decrease blood glucose levels in animal research. This effect has not yet been demonstrated in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might reduce or potentiate the effects of antidiabetes drugs. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Medication dose adjustments may be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (Diabeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the honest picture: in animal studies, Ceylon Leadwort root has gone both ways with blood sugar, sometimes lowering it and sometimes raising it. We haven't seen this play out in people yet, so it's a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, not a proven problem.

Since Lantus is a long-acting insulin that steadily lowers your blood sugar, the worry is mostly about unpredictability. If the herb adds to insulin's effect, you could drift too low (shakiness, sweating, confusion, fast heartbeat). If it pushes the other way, your numbers might run higher than usual. Insulin dosing is precise, so even small shifts matter. Please don't change your Lantus dose on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor and monitor your readings closely if you add this.

Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. What Is Insulin Glargine (rDNA origin) Injection Used For?

Brand name: Lantus

Insulin glargine is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a long-acting insulin that works around the clock to help keep blood sugar levels stable.

Insulin glargine is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous complication where the blood becomes acidic due to very high blood sugar).
