Why this applies to Pindolol

Pindolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), and others.

Here's the situation with pindolol and Ceylon Leadwort. Your blood pressure pill is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. A compound in this plant, plumbagin, has been shown to slow that same enzyme down, but only in lab dish studies so far. The idea is that if the enzyme works slower, pindolol could clear out of your body more slowly and build up a bit.

If that happened, you might notice more of pindolol's usual effects, like a slower heart rate, lightheadedness, tiredness, or feeling dizzy when you stand up. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and has never actually been reported in real people. Still, since it's the heart and blood pressure we're talking about, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
