Atomoxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Strattera (atomoxetine): your body clears it mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies suggest higenamine can block that same enzyme. If that blocking happened in real life, atomoxetine could build up in your system and hit harder than expected. That might mean a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, decreased appetite, or feeling jittery. Higenamine on its own is also a stimulant, so stacking the two could add to those heart and blood pressure effects.

I'll be honest though, this concern comes only from test-tube research and hasn't been shown in people, so it's theoretical. Still, since both can rev up your heart, it's worth running this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

What Is Atomoxetine Used For?

Brand name: Strattera

Atomoxetine — available as capsules (Atomoxetine, Atomoxetine Hydrochloride, Strattera) and as an oral solution (Atomoxetine Hydrochloride, Atoncy) — is approved for the treatment of ADHD in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older. It is meant to be part of a total treatment program that may also include psychological, educational, and social supports.

ADHD is diagnosed when persistent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity cause meaningful problems in daily life — at school, at work, or at home — in more than one setting. Atomoxetine is not approved to treat major depressive disorder.
