Why this applies to Encainide

Encainide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Hordenine interacts with.

Hordenine weakly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzymes in vitro. Theoretically, hordenine might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist for Encainide: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break it down. Hordenine has been shown, in test-tube studies only, to weakly block that same enzyme. In theory, that could let encainide build up a bit more than usual.

Why pay attention? Encainide is an antiarrhythmic, the kind of heart-rhythm drug where small changes in blood levels can matter. Higher levels could mean more dizziness, blurred vision, or even new or worsened irregular heartbeats. That said, this is a theoretical, lab-based concern with weak inhibition, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, since hordenine is itself a stimulant and your heart is already the focus here, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
