Tranylcypromine falls under MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs) — the group Hordenine interacts with.

Hordenine is structurally similar to tyramine In vitro research shows that hordenine is a selective substrate for monoamine oxidase-B in the liver. Theoretically, concomitant use of hordenine with MAOIs might increase blood pressure, potentially leading to a hypertensive crisis.
Some MAOIs include isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), and tranylcypromine (Parnate).

Here's the concern with pairing hordenine and Parnate (tranylcypromine). Parnate is an MAO inhibitor, meaning it blocks the very enzyme that normally breaks down stimulant-like compounds in your body. Hordenine is chemically similar to tyramine, the substance behind the famous "cheese reaction" people on MAOIs are warned about. The worry is that with your MAO enzymes shut down by Parnate, hordenine could build up and push your blood pressure up sharply.

In a worst case that means a hypertensive crisis, with a pounding headache, chest tightness, sweating, or a racing heart. I'll be honest that this is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave in the lab rather than proven cases. Still, because Parnate already comes with strict food and supplement rules, I'd skip hordenine and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Tranylcypromine tablets — sold as Parnate, Tranylcypromine, and Tranylcypromine Sulfate — are used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. It is not a first-choice antidepressant; it is specifically for people who have already tried other antidepressants and have not gotten adequate relief.

Because of its serious potential side effects, strict dietary requirements, and many drug interactions, tranylcypromine is reserved for cases where other treatments have not worked. It is not approved for use in children.
