Phentermine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Hordenine interacts with.

Hordenine is structurally similar to N-methyltyramine and synephrine, constituents in bitter orange known to have stimulant properties. Theoretically, taking hordenine with drugs with stimulant properties might increase the risk of hypertension and other adverse cardiovascular effects.
Some of these drugs include amphetamine, caffeine, methylphenidate, pseudoephedrine, and many others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: phentermine is already a stimulant that revs up your body's 'fight-or-flight' signals to curb appetite. Hordenine works in a similar way, nudging up that same norepinephrine activity. Stacking the two together could pile on stimulant effects, so the worry is mainly with your heart and blood pressure. You might notice a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or feeling anxious.

I'll be straight with you: this caution is theoretical, based on how these compounds look and behave in the lab, not on solid human studies. Still, since both are active stimulants, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you have any heart concerns.

Phentermine is approved as a short-term addition to a weight-loss program — not a standalone treatment. It is used alongside reduced-calorie eating, increased physical activity, and behavior changes to help manage obesity in adults whose body mass index (BMI) is 30 kg/m² or higher, or 27 kg/m² or higher when other risk factors such as controlled high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) are also present.

All available phentermine products — including Adipex-P, Lomaira, and various generic capsules and tablets — share this same FDA-approved use. Lomaira tablets are specifically dosed to be taken three times daily before meals, while other formulations are generally taken once daily. Treatment is intended to last only a few weeks.
