Dextroamphetamine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Hordenine interacts with.

Hordenine is structurally similar to N-methyltyramine and synephrine, constituents in bitter orange known to have stimulant properties. Theoretically, taking hordenine with drugs with stimulant properties might increase the risk of hypertension and other adverse cardiovascular effects.
Some of these drugs include amphetamine, caffeine, methylphenidate, pseudoephedrine, and many others.

Here's the simple version: dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine, Xelstrym) is already a powerful stimulant that revs up your nervous system. Hordenine looks chemically similar to other stimulant compounds and may nudge norepinephrine, one of your body's 'fight-or-flight' messengers. Stack the two together and you could be doubling down on the same effect.

What that might feel like is a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired and anxious. To be fair, this concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds work rather than solid human studies, so the actual risk isn't well measured. Still, since both push in the same direction, I'd run any hordenine product past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Dextroamphetamine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES.

Hordenine weakly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzymes in vitro. Theoretically, hordenine might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the situation with these two. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 as one way to help clear dextroamphetamine. In lab dish studies, hordenine appears to weakly block that enzyme. The theory is that if it slows that breakdown a bit, more dextroamphetamine could hang around, which might nudge up effects like a racing heart, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or appetite loss.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This is based only on test-tube data, the blocking effect is mild, and it's rated a minor interaction. On top of that, both hordenine and dextroamphetamine are stimulants, so stacking them is really my bigger concern for your heart and nerves. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

What Is Dextroamphetamine Used For?

Brand name: Dexedrine

Dextroamphetamine treats two conditions: ADHD and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness). It is available in multiple forms — tablets, extended-release capsules, oral solution, and a skin patch — and the approved age ranges vary by product.

Oral tablets (Zenzedi, generic) and oral solutions (Procentra, generic) are approved for ADHD in children as young as 3 years old and for narcolepsy. Extended-release capsules (Dexedrine, generic) are approved for ADHD in children ages 6 to 16 and for narcolepsy. Xelstrym, the transdermal patch, is approved only for ADHD — in adults and children ages 6 and older — and is not indicated for narcolepsy.
