Moringa + Sparfloxacin
Sparfloxacin brand name: Zagam.
Moringa has a moderate interaction with Sparfloxacin. Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Sparfloxacin
Sparfloxacin falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Sparfloxacin (Zagam) is an antibiotic that your kidneys help clear out using a little 'pump' called P-glycoprotein. Lab studies suggest moringa leaf extract can slow that pump down. If the pump works slower, your body might hold onto a bit more of the antibiotic than usual, which in theory could mean slightly stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like nausea, headache, dizziness, or sun sensitivity. Sparfloxacin already needs care because it can affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation), so anything that raises its levels is worth watching.
Now the reassuring part: this is only seen in test-tube and animal research, never reported in real people, and food amounts of moringa are unlikely to matter. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing concentrated moringa supplements with this antibiotic.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Sparfloxacin page
“Sparfloxacin (Zagam) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with two known quirks: it can stretch the heart's QT interval, and it makes skin burn faster in the sun. Much of this list presses on exactly those weak points, so combine carefully and get familiar with the major-rated entries before adding a supplement.”

About Moringa
What is Moringa?
- Nutritional supplement
- Blood sugar support
- Cholesterol support
- Inflammation
- Skin conditions
Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
