Ostarine and Daunorubicin, Cytarabine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS

Why this applies to Daunorubicin, Cytarabine

Daunorubicin, Cytarabine falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Ostarine interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Some clinical research shows that ostarine can increase alanine aminotransferase, a marker of liver damage, in some patients. Additionally, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns that supplements containing SARMs, such as ostarine, have been associated with reports of liver toxicity and there are at least two reports of drug-induced liver injury attributed to the use of ostarine.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the concern when Ostarine meets Vyxeos (the daunorubicin and cytarabine combo used for AML). Both can be tough on the liver. Daunorubicin-based chemo already carries a known risk of liver stress, and Ostarine has been tied to rising liver enzymes (like ALT) and even a few reports of real liver injury. Stacking two liver-stressing agents could, in theory, add up and make liver problems more likely.

To be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not on direct studies of them together. Even so, with cancer treatment this important, I'd steer clear of an unapproved, banned SARM like Ostarine. Please run this by your oncology team or pharmacist before mixing anything in.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Daunorubicin, Cytarabine page

“Vyxeos pairs daunorubicin and cytarabine to treat acute myeloid leukemia, and its supplement list is one to handle with genuine care. Most of it points at the liver: 38 of the 50 flagged ingredients can stress an organ already processing intensive chemotherapy, and the three rated major all belong to that group.”
