Here's the connection worth knowing about. Puravive contains Panax ginseng, and pentamidine is one of those medicines known to stretch out the heart's electrical recharge time (what we call the QT interval). When two things that both nudge the QT interval in the same direction are combined, that effect can add up. In theory, that could raise the small risk of a dangerous heart rhythm, with symptoms like a racing or fluttering heartbeat, dizziness, or fainting.

That said, the evidence here is mixed. Some short-term studies showed ginseng lengthening the QT a bit, while longer-term use didn't. Pentamidine is given by injection in a medical setting, so your team is usually watching your heart. Still, please mention Puravive to your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Pentam 300 (pentamidine isethionate for injection) is indicated for the treatment of pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis carinii (PCP), a potentially life-threatening lung infection that most commonly affects people with weakened immune systems.

Because of its serious risks, Pentam 300 should only be given to patients in whom Pneumocystis carinii infection has actually been confirmed.
