Pazopanib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Votrient (pazopanib). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this cancer medicine from your body. In lab dish testing, uva ursi seemed to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, your body might break pazopanib down more slowly, letting levels creep up. That could mean stronger side effects like high blood pressure, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, or changes in liver tests.

I want to be honest, though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube work, and it hasn't actually been shown in humans. Still, pazopanib is a serious drug with real risks, so please don't add uva ursi without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

Theoretically, uva ursi may alter the levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with uva ursi and pazopanib (Votrient). Pazopanib gets moved around your body partly by a transporter called P-glycoprotein, which acts like a gatekeeper pushing the drug back out of cells. In lab dish studies, uva ursi seemed to block that gatekeeper. If that happened in a real person, more pazopanib could stay in the body, which in theory might mean more of its known side effects, like high blood pressure, diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, or changes in liver tests.

The honest truth is this is theoretical and has only been seen in the lab, never confirmed in people, and it's rated a minor concern. Still, since pazopanib is a serious cancer medicine, please run any uva ursi use past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Pazopanib Used For?

Brand name: Votrient

Pazopanib tablets — sold as the brand Votrient and as generic pazopanib — are used to treat two types of advanced cancer in adults: advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common form of kidney cancer, and advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) in patients who have already received prior chemotherapy.

Important limitation: Pazopanib has not been shown to work in adipocytic soft tissue sarcoma (a subtype involving fat cells) or in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), so it is not used for those cancers.
