Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: white mulberry leaf extract. Mulberry leaf has been used traditionally to support blood sugar regulation and overall health.

The capsules also contain gelatin as an inactive ingredient to hold the powder together.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient White Mulberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that white mulberry leaf works for any specific condition. We don't have reliable data on its effectiveness for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, or high cholesterol — all rated insufficient evidence to rate in our sources.

That doesn't mean it won't help, just that solid clinical proof isn't available yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated when taken orally. The most common side effects are mild digestive issues: bloating, flatulence, loose stools, and constipation.

In one study, about half of participants experienced bloating or gas, a quarter had loose stools, and one in five had constipation over 4 weeks — but these effects often lessened over time for some people. Because concentrated supplements haven't been as thoroughly studied as whole food mulberry, the data advises caution.

There isn't enough safety information to know whether medicinal amounts are safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if either applies to you.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your medications against our interaction tool below if you take antidiabetes drugs or any OCT2 substrates (particularly metformin). These are Moderate-severity interactions — your doctor or pharmacist needs to weigh the benefit against the risk of low blood sugar or slowed drug elimination.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you're managing blood sugar with medication or taking drugs eliminated through the kidney (like metformin), run this supplement past your pharmacist first — the interaction potential is real. For everyone else without those medications, mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated, though digestive side effects like bloating are common, especially at first.

Its effectiveness for any specific health goal isn't established in the data we hold.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

Mulberry Leaf Extract by Earthborn Elements: Common Questions

Does Mulberry Leaf Extract by Earthborn Elements interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Mulberry Leaf Extract has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Mulberry Leaf Extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this lower my blood sugar if I'm diabetic?
Clinical research shows white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. If you take diabetes medication, the combination could push your blood sugar too low. Don't start this without talking to your doctor or pharmacist — they'll help you monitor and adjust if needed.
What side effects should I expect?
The most common are mild digestive ones: bloating, gas, loose stools, or constipation. In one study, about half of people had bloating or gas, a quarter had loose stools, and one in five had constipation — but for many, these effects lessened over the course of treatment.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data to know either way with medicinal amounts. The safety notes advise against it. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist to decide what's right for your situation.
Does it actually work for diabetes or high cholesterol?
We don't have reliable evidence that it's effective for either. It may help lower blood glucose in theory, but proof for treating diabetes, high cholesterol, hair loss, osteoporosis, or colds isn't established in the data we hold.
What's in each capsule besides the mulberry extract?
Just gelatin, which is the capsule material itself — a binder that holds the powder. No other fillers or additives.
