Ceylon Leadwort and Betamethasone valerate

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Betamethasone valerate

Betamethasone valerate falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has demonstrated immunosuppressant activity in animal research. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the situation with betamethasone valerate (Luxiq). This is a topical corticosteroid you put on your skin to calm down inflammation, itching, and redness from things like eczema or psoriasis. Ceylon Leadwort contains plumbagin, which in lab and animal studies has shown its own effects on the immune system. The theory is that it could tug against the steroid and make your treatment work less reliably.

I want to be honest though: this is based only on test tube and animal research, not real people. And since betamethasone valerate works right at the skin's surface where you apply it, very little gets into the rest of the body, so a meaningful clash is unlikely. Still, plumbagin can irritate skin on its own. If you're using both, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.
