Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of both caffeine and riluzole.
Coffee contains caffeine. Caffeine and riluzole are both metabolized by cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2), and concomitant use might reduce metabolism of one or both agents.

Here's the situation with your morning cup and riluzole. Both coffee's caffeine and riluzole get cleaned out of your body by the same liver enzyme, called CYP1A2. Since they're competing for the same pathway, drinking coffee could slow down how fast each one is broken down, meaning levels of both might creep up a bit. Riluzole is the active drug itself (not a prodrug), so higher levels could mean more of its usual side effects, like nausea, dizziness, tiredness, or stomach upset. The caffeine could also hit you harder, leaving you jittery or having trouble sleeping.

I want to be honest though: this concern comes from lab studies, not real patient reports, so it's more theoretical than proven. You don't need to swear off coffee, but if you notice extra jitters or feeling more wiped out than usual, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Riluzole Used For?

Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
