Riluzole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Here's the gist for riluzole (Rilutek, Tiglutik, Exservan): your body clears this drug mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab studies suggest yohimbe may speed that enzyme up a bit. If riluzole gets cleared faster, its blood levels could drop, which in theory might make it work a little less well at protecting your nerves in ALS.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from real people, and it's rated as a minor interaction. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. That said, yohimbe carries its own real risks, like raising blood pressure and heart rate. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

What Is Riluzole Used For?

Brand names: Rilutek, Tiglutik, Exservan

Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
