Metolazone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Theoretically, concomitant use of yohimbe and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.

Here's the thing to keep in mind if you're taking metolazone for high blood pressure or swelling: yohimbe works against you. Metolazone is a water pill that helps lower blood pressure by clearing extra salt and fluid. Yohimbe's active compound, yohimbine, can actually raise blood pressure and speed up your heart rate. So the two are pulling in opposite directions, and yohimbe could blunt the blood-pressure control your metolazone is working to give you.

Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how yohimbine behaves, not hard proof from studies on this exact pairing. Still, with the real heart and blood pressure effects yohimbe can cause, I'd check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if your numbers are being watched closely.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

What Is Metolazone Used For?

Brand names: Diulo, Zaroxolyn, Mykrox

Metolazone tablets are used to treat edema (excess fluid buildup) linked to congestive heart failure or kidney diseases — including nephrotic syndrome and conditions with reduced kidney function. They are also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either alone or alongside other blood pressure medications.

Metolazone tablets may also be used during pregnancy when edema is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not appropriate.
