Theoretically, taking yohimbe with stimulant drugs can have additive effects.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking yohimbe with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.

Here's the thing to keep in mind if you're pairing yohimbe with modafinil. This isn't about one changing how the other is broken down. Instead, both can rev up your system in similar ways, so the worry is that their effects stack on top of each other. Modafinil already tends to nudge up heart rate and blood pressure and can leave some folks feeling jittery, anxious, or with a racing heart.

Yohimbe (through its active piece, yohimbine) does much the same thing, raising blood pressure and stimulating the body. Put them together and you may get more of those effects than you bargained for. I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how both work, not hard proof. Still, since yohimbe supplements vary so much in strength, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Modafinil also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, yohimbe might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Here's the gist of it: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear modafinil. In lab studies (just test tube work, not real people), yohimbe seemed to speed that enzyme up. If that held true in the body, it could push modafinil out of your system a little faster, which in theory might leave you with weaker wakefulness and a bit more daytime sleepiness, the very thing you're trying to control.

That said, this is rated as minor and rests on weak, theoretical evidence, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger real-world concern is yohimbe itself, since both yohimbe and modafinil can nudge up your heart rate and blood pressure. Please run this combo past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Modafinil

What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil (also sold as Provigil) is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD).

In OSA, modafinil treats the sleepiness — not the underlying airway obstruction itself. It is used alongside standard treatments such as CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep), not as a replacement for them. If CPAP is appropriate for you, your doctor will want you to use it consistently even while taking modafinil.
