Theoretically, yohimbe might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Theoretically, concomitant use of yohimbe and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.

Here's the simple version: amlodipine is working to lower your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Yohimbe (through its active compound, yohimbine) tends to do the opposite. It can nudge blood pressure up and speed up the heart rate. So putting the two together may partly cancel out the benefit you get from your amlodipine.

In practice, this could show up as blood pressure readings that creep higher than usual, more chest pain if you take amlodipine for angina, or a racing, pounding feeling. I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how yohimbine behaves, not strong patient studies. Still, since over-the-counter yohimbe doses vary a lot, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Amlodipine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, yohimbe might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Here's the quick version for these two together. Your body clears amlodipine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies (done in test tubes, not in people) hint that yohimbe may speed up that enzyme, which could clear amlodipine a little faster and make it slightly less effective at controlling your blood pressure or chest pain. Amlodipine is the active drug itself, not a prodrug, so faster breakdown means less effect, not more.

Honestly, this is a theoretical, minor concern based only on lab data, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger worry is yohimbe's own tendency to raise blood pressure and heart rate, which works against what amlodipine is doing. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Amlodipine

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norliqva

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
