Yohimbe + Ranitidine
Ranitidine brand names: Zantac 150 EFFER, Zantac 150 GEL, Zantac 150, Zantac Geldose, Zantac, and others.
Yohimbe has a moderate interaction with Ranitidine. CYP2D6 inhibitors may increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) INHIBITORS
Why this applies to Ranitidine
Ranitidine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) INHIBITORS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.
In vitro and clinical research shows that the yohimbe bark constituent, yohimbine, is metabolized by CYP2D6 isoenzymes. Paroxetine, a cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 inhibitor, increases the maximum serum concentration of yohimbine and reduces the clearance of yohimbine compared to yohimbine alone in patients who are extensive CYP2D6 metabolizers..
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist: your body clears yohimbine (the active part of yohimbe) using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Ranitidine can mildly block that same enzyme. When that pathway slows down, yohimbine isn't broken down as fast and can build up in your system. So in this pairing, it's the yohimbe that gets stronger, not your ranitidine. Ranitidine itself isn't a prodrug here, so its heartburn relief shouldn't change.
Why care? Higher yohimbine levels can mean more of its rough side effects, like a racing heart, jitteriness, anxiety, and spikes in blood pressure. Ranitidine is a fairly weak CYP2D6 blocker, so the effect is usually modest, but yohimbe products are unpredictable to begin with. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ranitidine page
“Ranitidine (Zantac) is a heartburn and ulcer medicine gentle enough to have sold over the counter, but two of the 74 supplements and herbs on file with it earn real caution and are worth understanding first. Activated charcoal can soak up ranitidine in the gut and blunt the dose, and St.”

About Yohimbe
What is Yohimbe?
- Erectile dysfunction
- Low sex drive
- Sexual performance
- Weight loss
- Athletic performance
Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
About Ranitidine
What Is Ranitidine Used For?
Brand names: Zantac 150 EFFER, Zantac 150 GEL, Zantac 150, Zantac Geldose, Zantac, Ranit, Zantac Efferdose, Zantac 300, Zantac 300 GEL, Ranitidine injection
Ranitidine is used to treat several acid-related stomach and esophageal conditions. These include active duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the small intestine) and benign gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease, or chronic acid reflux), erosive esophagitis (irritation and damage to the esophagus from acid), and pathological hypersecretory conditions — rare disorders where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and systemic mastocytosis. It is also used as maintenance therapy to keep ulcers and esophagitis from coming back after healing.
Over-the-counter products Acid Reducer and Wal-Zan tablets are specifically labeled to relieve heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach, and to prevent heartburn brought on by certain foods or beverages.

Ranitidine Is Linked to Lower Levels of 6 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Ranitidine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Yohimbe — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
