Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Semaglutide
Semaglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Coffee interacts with.
Coffee contains caffeine. Reports claim that caffeine might increase or decrease blood sugar levels.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the short version: there's no real chemical clash between your morning coffee and semaglutide. Semaglutide doesn't rely on liver enzymes to switch on or get cleared, so caffeine isn't going to speed it up or slow it down. The note in our database is more of a theoretical heads-up about caffeine itself, since some reports suggest caffeine can nudge blood sugar a little in either direction.
What this means for you day to day: if you drink a lot of coffee, especially with sugar or sweetened creamers, you might notice your glucose readings bounce around a bit. That's the caffeine and the add-ins, not a direct fight with Ozempic, Rybelsus, or Wegovy. Keep an eye on your numbers, and if anything looks off, chat with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Questions About Coffee or Semaglutide
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. From our pharmacist’s overview on the Semaglutide page
“Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) lowers blood sugar, and so do most of the 256 supplements on this page, which is why I read this list with real vigilance rather than a shrug. Nearly all of the entries either add to its glucose-lowering effect and raise the risk of hypoglycemia, or push sugar the other way and blunt it, as niaci…”

About Coffee
What is Coffee?
- Alertness and reducing fatigue
- Mental focus and concentration
- Athletic performance
- Headache relief
- Weight management
Coffee is a widely consumed beverage made from roasted coffee beans, valued mainly for its caffeine, which boosts alertness and energy. For most healthy adults, moderate coffee intake is generally safe and may have some health benefits, but too much can cause jitteriness, poor sleep, and a faster heartbeat. People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or sensitive to caffeine should limit their intake and check with a doctor or pharmacist.
About Semaglutide
What Is Semaglutide Used For?
Brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy
Semaglutide is available as Wegovy (injection and tablet) and Ozempic (injection), and each product has its own approved uses. Wegovy injection is approved — alongside diet and exercise — to reduce excess body weight in adults and in children aged 12 and older with obesity, to lower the risk of serious heart events (heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death) in adults with obesity or overweight who also have established heart disease, and for treatment of a liver condition called MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, formerly called NASH) with moderate-to-advanced scarring in adults. Wegovy tablets share the cardiovascular risk reduction and weight management uses in adults, but are not approved for MASH or for use in children. Ozempic injection is approved to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise) and to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have established heart disease.
All forms are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Ozempic is not approved for type 1 diabetes. The MASH approval for Wegovy injection is an accelerated approval, meaning continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory study.

Semaglutide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Semaglutide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Coffee — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
