Coffee + Candesartan Cilexetil

Candesartan Cilexetil brand names: Atacand, Amias.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Candesartan Cilexetil and Coffee in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Candesartan Cilexetil

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Candesartan Cilexetil is filed under 3 classifications — angiotensin receptor blockers (arbs), antihypertensive drugs, oral drugs. Coffee has documented interactions with 33 drug classes — the most serious being ephedrine (major), adenosine (adenocard) (moderate) and alendronate (fosamax) (moderate) — and none of Candesartan Cilexetil’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. 3 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

Special populations

Coffee in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy Possibly Safe

When used orally in moderate amounts. Intake of caffeine from coffee and other sources should be monitored during pregnancy. Caffeine crosses the human placenta, but is not considered a teratogen. Fetal blood and tissue levels are similar to maternal concentrations. The use of caffeine during pregnancy is controversial; however, moderate consumption has not been associated with clinically important adverse fetal effects. However, some research has also found that intrauterine exposure to even modest amounts of caffeine, based on maternal blood levels during the first trimester, is associated with a shorter stature in children ages 4-8 years. In some studies, consuming amounts over 200 mg daily has been associated with a significantly increased risk of miscarriage. This increased risk may be most likely to occur in people with genotypes that confer a slow rate of caffeine metabolism. According to a review by Health Canada, and a subsequent large meta-analysis conducted in the US, most healthy pregnant patients can safely consume caffeine in doses up to 300 mg daily without an increased risk of spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, preterm birth, fetal growth retardation, or congenital malformations. Advise patients to keep caffeine consumption below 300 mg daily during pregnancy. This is similar to the amount of caffeine in about 3 cups of coffee. Keep in mind that only the amount of ADDED caffeine must be stated on product labels. The amount of caffeine found in ingredients such as coffee, which naturally contains caffeine, does not need to be provided. This can make it difficult to determine the total amount of caffeine in a given product.

Pregnancy Possibly Unsafe

When caffeinated coffee providing more than 300 mg of caffeine daily is consumed orally. Caffeine from coffee crosses the placenta, producing fetal blood concentrations similar to maternal levels. Consumption of caffeine in amounts over 300 mg daily is associated with a significantly increased risk of miscarriage in some studies. Advise patients to keep caffeine consumption from all sources below 300 mg daily during pregnancy. This is similar to the amount of caffeine in about 3 cups of coffee. High doses of caffeine throughout pregnancy have resulted in symptoms of caffeine withdrawal in newborn infants. High doses of caffeine have also been associated with spontaneous abortion, premature delivery, and low birth weight. Drinking more than 6 cups of coffee daily increases the risk of spontaneous abortion. Drinking 8 or more cups of coffee daily doubles the risk of stillbirth when compared with those who do not drink coffee during pregnancy.

Lactation Possibly Safe

When used orally. Drinking one or two caffeine-containing beverages daily during lactation is not associated with unacceptable levels of caffeine in human milk.

Lactation Possibly Unsafe

When used orally in large amounts. Caffeine from coffee can cause wakefulness or irritability in breast-fed infants. Caffeine can also cause feeding intolerance and gastrointestinal irritation in infants.

What Candesartan Cilexetil Is Prescribed For, and What Coffee Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Candesartan Cilexetil is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Coffee is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Candesartan Cilexetil is prescribed for: Candesartan tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children ages 1 to under 17. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Candesartan tablets are also used in adults with heart failure (NYHA class II–IV) with reduced heart pumping function to lower the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization from heart failure. Atacand is specifically studied for use alongside an ACE inhibitor for added benefit in heart failure.

Coffee has been studied for:

  • Heart failure Natural Medicines rates the evidence for Coffee: Possibly Effective Read what the research shows

    Coffee for heart failure

Consumption of caffeinated coffee seems to reduce the long-term risk of heart failure in those without cardiovascular disease (CVD) at baseline.

  • Stroke studied, not established Coffee has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Coffee for stroke

It is unclear if coffee consumption, alone or in combination with tea, is beneficial for stroke, post-stroke dementia, all-cause mortality, or stroke-related mortality. The available research is conflicting.

Details: Several meta-analyses of population research in patients with and without cardiovascular disease (CVD) have found no association between coffee consumption and risk of stroke.

    Coffee for kidney failure

It is unclear if consuming coffee is beneficial for preventing progression to kidney failure or reducing the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD)-related death.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Candesartan Cilexetil on your own; if you are taking Coffee for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

About Coffee

What is Coffee?

  • Alertness and reducing fatigue
  • Mental focus and concentration
  • Athletic performance
  • Headache relief
  • Weight management

Coffee is a widely consumed beverage made from roasted coffee beans, valued mainly for its caffeine, which boosts alertness and energy. For most healthy adults, moderate coffee intake is generally safe and may have some health benefits, but too much can cause jitteriness, poor sleep, and a faster heartbeat. People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or sensitive to caffeine should limit their intake and check with a doctor or pharmacist.

Coffea arabica · Rubiaceae · Roasted seeds (beans) of the coffee fruit · Brewed coffee, instant coffee, espresso, capsules, green coffee bean extract, decaffeinated coffee

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Coffee is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Coffee record says about it on its own.

Coffee: dosing

There is no single official dose for coffee as a supplement. Many health authorities suggest that up to about 400 milligrams of caffeine per day is moderate for most healthy adults, which is roughly a few cups of brewed coffee, but individual tolerance varies a lot.If you use coffee capsules or extracts, follow the directions on the product label, since caffeine content can differ widely between products.

Taking Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil Together: Common Questions

Is it safe to take Coffee with Candesartan Cilexetil?
We do not list a known interaction between Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil. That does not guarantee the combination is risk-free, so confirm with your pharmacist or doctor — especially if you take other medications or have a health condition.
Do Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil have any of the same side effects?
Yes — our sources link each of them separately to 4 of the same effects. That is not an interaction: neither changes how your body handles the other. It does mean that if one of those effects turns up, it can be harder to tell which one is behind it. They are listed on this page with the source behind each.
Are Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil used for the same thing?
They overlap in purpose, which usually means the real question is whether you need both rather than whether they are safe together. This page lists the shared uses and how strong the evidence is for Coffee in each. That is a conversation for your prescriber, especially if Candesartan Cilexetil is being adjusted to a target.
How was the Coffee and Candesartan Cilexetil combination checked?
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes. Candesartan Cilexetil is filed under 3 classifications, and Coffee has documented interactions with 33 drug classes — none of Candesartan Cilexetil's classifications are among them. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded in our dataset, so this describes how the check was run rather than guaranteeing safety.
Does Coffee interact with any other medications?
Yes. Coffee has 591 documented drug interactions in our database — Candesartan Cilexetil is simply not one of them. If you take anything else, it is worth checking each one; they are all listed on this page.
Does Candesartan Cilexetil interact with any supplements?
Yes. Candesartan Cilexetil has documented interactions with 138 supplements in our database — Coffee is not one of them. The Candesartan Cilexetil interaction page linked on this page lists every one, ranked by severity.
