Sildenafil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Let me start with the most important point: jequirity seeds are genuinely poisonous and should never be taken as a supplement or remedy. So the safest answer here is to steer clear of it entirely, regardless of sildenafil.

As for the interaction itself, your liver clears sildenafil mainly through an enzyme called CYP3A4. In a lab dish, jequirity extract appeared to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in the body, sildenafil could build up and you might notice stronger effects like headache, flushing, a stuffy nose, dizziness, or a bigger drop in blood pressure. But this is only test-tube data, rated unlikely and minor, so it's theoretical at this point. Either way, please talk with your pharmacist or doctor and avoid jequirity.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

What Is Sildenafil Used For?

Brand name: Revatio

Sildenafil treats two distinct conditions depending on the product. Viagra (tablet) and Vybrique (dissolving oral film) are approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) — difficulty getting or keeping an erection. Generic sildenafil tablets and oral film are also approved for ED.

Revatio and several generic sildenafil products (tablets, oral suspension, and injection) are used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs — in adults to improve exercise ability and slow the disease from getting worse. Revatio oral suspension and injection are also approved for PAH in children ages 1 to 17.
