Laboratory evidence suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others.

Here's the gist for your birth control pill (Ortho-Cept, Marvelon, Desogen). Lab studies hint that lentinan may speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down the estrogen part (ethinyl estradiol). If that enzyme runs faster, hormone levels could theoretically dip a bit lower. With a contraceptive, the concern with lower hormone levels is breakthrough bleeding or spotting, and in a worst case, a small chance of reduced protection against pregnancy.

I want to keep this in perspective: this is only test-tube and animal data, and it has not been seen in real people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since reliable birth control matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding lentinan.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the quick picture with your birth control pill (desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol). Both hormones in this pill are broken down in part by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab research hints that lentinan might speed up that enzyme. If that happened in real life, your body could clear the hormones a little faster, which in theory could lower their levels and make the pill slightly less reliable. With contraceptives, even a small dip in hormone levels matters because the goal is preventing pregnancy.

The honest part: this is only test-tube and animal data, with nothing seen in actual people, so it's a theoretical concern, not a proven one. Still, before pairing lentinan with your pill, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh in.
