Why this applies to Rasagiline

Rasagiline falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.

Laboratory evidence suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others.

Here's the simple version. Your body clears rasagiline mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab and animal research hints that lentinan might rev that enzyme up a bit. If it sped up, your body could break down rasagiline a little faster, which in theory might leave you with less benefit for your Parkinson's symptoms, things like more tremor, stiffness, or slower movement creeping back.

That said, this is only a test-tube and animal signal, and it has never actually been reported in real people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Rasagiline is a sensitive medicine with its own food and drug cautions, so before adding any lentinan or shiitake supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Brand name: Azilect

Rasagiline tablets — sold as Azilect, Rasagiline, and Rasagiline mesylate — are approved to treat Parkinson's disease. They can be used on their own (monotherapy) or alongside other Parkinson's medications, including levodopa.

When used with levodopa, rasagiline helps smooth out the motor fluctuations that can occur as Parkinson's disease progresses. Your prescriber will determine whether it's right for you as a standalone treatment or as an add-on.
