Moringa and Aspirin, Pentazocine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES

Why this applies to Aspirin, Pentazocine

Aspirin, Pentazocine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.

Theoretically, moringa might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist for your Talwin Compound, which pairs aspirin with the pain reliever pentazocine. Some lab studies suggest moringa may rev up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which helps process certain drugs. If that happened in your body, it could nudge the levels of these medicines down a bit, meaning you might get a little less pain relief than usual. Neither drug becomes more active from this, so the bigger picture is simply reduced effect, not extra side effects.

Honestly, this is graded as a minor, theoretical concern based only on test-tube work, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Food-amounts of moringa are very unlikely to matter; concentrated supplements are more of a question mark. If you take this regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Pentazocine page

“Talwin Compound pairs pentazocine, an opioid painkiller, with aspirin, and I read its supplement list with more concern than most. The great majority of entries do one of two things: raise the bleeding risk that aspirin already carries, or deepen the sedation pentazocine causes.”

About Moringa

What is Moringa?

  • Nutritional supplement
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cholesterol support
  • Inflammation
  • Skin conditions

Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
