Moringa and Metformin, Sitagliptin

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Metformin, Sitagliptin

Metformin, Sitagliptin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Moringa interacts with.

Theoretically, moringa might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Animal research shows that moringa can lower blood glucose levels. However, research in humans has not shown consistent blood glucose lowering effects.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence B

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: moringa might nudge your blood sugar a little lower on its own. Your Janumet already does that job with two ingredients (metformin and sitagliptin), so stacking moringa on top could, in theory, add to that effect. If blood sugar drops too far, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, or unusually hungry.

I'll be honest though, this is a minor, theoretical concern. The animal studies suggest a sugar-lowering effect, but human research has been inconsistent, so we can't say it reliably happens. Food amounts in cooking are very unlikely to matter; concentrated supplement doses are where I'd pay more attention. If you'd like to try moringa, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your home readings.

About Moringa

What is Moringa?

  • Nutritional supplement
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cholesterol support
  • Inflammation
  • Skin conditions

Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
