These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Oolong Tea interacts with whole categories of medication. Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Oolong Tea in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine
Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Oolong Tea interacts with.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. Caffeine is reported to have antiplatelet activity. Theoretically, the caffeine in oolong tea might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with these agents. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about this combo: your medication already contains aspirin, which thins the blood by quieting platelets (the cells that help you clot). On paper, the caffeine in oolong tea has shown a mild antiplatelet effect too, so stacking the two could in theory nudge your bleeding risk up a little. With aspirin that might look like easier bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset.
I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical, based only on lab work, and it has never actually been reported in real people. Your medicine also already has caffeine built in. A few cups of oolong tea are unlikely to cause trouble for most folks, but if you bruise easily, notice unusual bleeding, or drink large amounts, check with your pharmacist or doctor.
STIMULANT DRUGS
2 of 2Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. Due to the CNS stimulant effects of the caffeine constituent of oolong tea, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: the medication you asked about already contains caffeine as one of its three ingredients. Oolong tea brings even more caffeine to the table. So you're really stacking caffeine on top of caffeine. The aspirin and orphenadrine parts aren't the concern here, it's that extra stimulant load.
When you pile on too much, you may feel jittery, have a racing or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, an upset stomach, or feel anxious or shaky. This is based mostly on expert reasoning rather than hard studies, so a cup or two of tea probably won't cause trouble for most people. Still, if you notice your heart racing or you can't settle down, that's your cue to check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
