Hydrochlorothiazide, Lisinopril falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Oolong Tea interacts with.

Theoretically, using oolong tea with diuretic drugs might increase the risk of hypokalemia.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. In excessive amounts, caffeine can reduce potassium levels due to stimulation of the sodium-potassium pump. Diuretics can also cause lower potassium levels.

Here's the gist for your Zestoretic (lisinopril with hydrochlorothiazide). The water pill part, hydrochlorothiazide, can lower your potassium level. Oolong tea has caffeine, and in large amounts caffeine may also nudge potassium down. So in theory, drinking a lot of oolong tea on top of your medication could add up and push potassium lower than you'd like. Low potassium can show up as muscle cramps, weakness, tiredness, or an irregular heartbeat.

The good news: this is a theoretical concern based on how things work, not strong proof. A cup or two a day is unlikely to be a problem for most folks. It's the heavy, all-day tea or caffeine habit that matters more. If you drink a lot, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your potassium.

What Is Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Zestoretic, Prinzide

Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold as the brand Zestoretic and as the generic combination — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack.

This is a fixed-dose combination product and is not intended as a first-line (initial) treatment for high blood pressure. It is typically prescribed for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on a single medication alone.
