Why this applies to Zileuton

Zileuton falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Ostarine interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Some clinical research shows that ostarine can increase alanine aminotransferase, a marker of liver damage, in some patients. Additionally, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns that supplements containing SARMs, such as ostarine, have been associated with reports of liver toxicity and there are at least two reports of drug-induced liver injury attributed to the use of ostarine.

Here's the concern with pairing these two. Zileuton itself can be hard on the liver, which is exactly why your doctor checks your liver enzymes (like ALT) before you start it and during the first few months. Ostarine has also been linked to liver injury, and some studies show it can push those same ALT numbers up. Stack a known liver-stressing drug on top of a SARM that does the same thing, and you may be doubling up the strain on one organ.

To be fair, this is a theoretical risk based on how each one behaves, not a proven head-to-head problem. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Keep in mind Ostarine isn't FDA-approved. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Zileuton also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS.

Theoretically, concomitant use of ostarine with CYP3A4 inhibitors could increase the effects and adverse effects of ostarine, although this is unlikely to be clinically significant.
Ostarine is partially metabolized by CYP3A4. However, clinical research shows that taking itraconazole, a potent inhibitor of CYP3A4, had minimal effects on the levels of ostarine in the body.

Here's the gist for this pair. Zileuton can gently slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and Ostarine is partly broken down by that same enzyme. In theory, that could let a bit more Ostarine linger in your body, which might nudge up its effects and side effects. But this is really a small, low-likelihood concern. In actual studies, even a strong CYP3A4 blocker barely changed Ostarine levels, so Zileuton (a much milder one) is unlikely to matter much.

The bigger issue is that both Zileuton and Ostarine can stress the liver. Stacking two things that may raise liver enzymes deserves caution. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, especially since Ostarine isn't an approved or recommended product.

Zileuton also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, ostarine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9, although clinical research suggests this is not clinically relevant.
Although in vitro research suggests that ostarine inhibits CYP2C9, more robust clinical research shows that ostarine does not significantly affect CYP2C9.

Here's the short version on mixing Ostarine with your asthma drug Zileuton. Zileuton is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. In a test tube, Ostarine looked like it might slow that enzyme down, which in theory could let Zileuton build up a little and bump up side effects like nausea, stomach upset, or strain on your liver. But when this was actually studied in people, Ostarine did not meaningfully change how CYP2C9 works, so this concern stays mostly theoretical.

The bigger issue here isn't really the interaction. Both Ostarine and Zileuton can stress the liver on their own, and Ostarine is an unapproved SARM linked to liver injury. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your asthma medicine on your own.

About Zileuton

What Is Zileuton Used For?

Brand names: Zyflo, Zyflo CR

Zileuton is used for the ongoing prevention and treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older. It is a maintenance medicine — meaning it is taken regularly to keep asthma under control, not to stop an asthma attack once it has started.

Zyflo (the tablet form) and zileuton extended-release tablets are both approved for this same purpose. Neither form should be used to treat a sudden asthma attack. However, both can be continued during a flare-up of asthma while you also use your rescue inhaler.
