Why this applies to Abiraterone Acetate
Abiraterone Acetate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Red Clover interacts with.
In vitro evidence shows that red clover might inhibit CYP3A4 isoenzymes. However, a clinical study in healthy postmenopausal individuals shows that taking red clover capsules standardized to contain 60 mg isoflavones twice daily for 14 days does not affect the pharmacokinetics of alprazolam, a CYP3A4 probe substrate.

Here's the short version: this is a very mild, mostly theoretical concern. Abiraterone (Yonsa) is processed in part by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In a test tube, red clover's isoflavones looked like they might slow that enzyme down, which in theory could let a little more abiraterone build up. If that happened, you might see slightly stronger effects or side effects like fluid retention, high blood pressure, low potassium, or liver enzyme changes.
But here's the reassuring part: an actual human study using a standardized 60 mg isoflavone dose twice daily found no real change in how a CYP3A4 drug was handled. So in practice this interaction is unlikely to cause trouble. Still, abiraterone is a serious cancer medicine, so check with your pharmacist or oncologist before adding red clover.

What Is Abiraterone Used For?
Brand names: Zytiga, Yonsa
Abiraterone acetate tablets are used to treat two types of advanced prostate cancer: metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC — cancer that has spread and keeps growing despite low testosterone levels) and metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC — cancer that has spread but still responds to hormone-lowering treatment). It is always taken together with a corticosteroid — most products pair with prednisone, while Yonsa is specifically indicated with methylprednisolone.
All products — including Abiraterone, Abiraterone Acetate, Abirtega, Yonsa, and Zytiga — are taken by mouth as a tablet. Yonsa is approved only for metastatic CRPC, while the other products (Abiraterone, Abiraterone Acetate, Abirtega, and Zytiga) are approved for both metastatic CRPC and metastatic high-risk CSPC.
